The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running. The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the fence. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the main straight. The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
